SIDE STEPPING MUTUTHO LAWS
Mututho was right. Road accidents have been rapidly
increasing due to uncontrolled use of the lion's tears. When one is drunk, he/she
often loses control to the alcohol consumed causing tragic accidents that have
claimed many innocent lives and left many disabled. Implementation of Mututho
laws has however brought sanity to our roads. For ages, reduction of road
accidents has been a mirage that is gradually coming to reality.
However, the new laws were not received with excitement as
it had intruded into their amenity and some to their businesses. The law even
saw some legislatures in support of the law lose their seats during the last
general elections at the hands of the people on the tall stool.
Individuals
Necessity is the mother of invention. This popular saying rang
bells in the affected and infected people. Here, Kenyans had to prove their
creativity and innovation skills. Several thoughtful strategies have lately
been set to evade the law. This does not exclude one opportunistic
entrepreneur, Mr. Ining’ining’I who was selling breathalysers in the streets of
Nairobi. He had identified a gap in the alcohol market where the drunk were not
able to measure their alcohol level before they face the long merciless hand of
the law. Some have also discovered that taking anti acids like ENO and Andrews
help in cutting down the level of alcohol in the air blown into the gadget. Members
like Mr.Ketepa have confirmed that it works.

Bar and Club owners
Bar and club owners have also not been left behind in
sidestepping these laws as it has seen them loose most of their customers and
revenue in the long run. They have come up with strategies to ensure continuity
of their income and comfort in their delivery of services to their esteemed
customers. They have also done it in the best way that they may not brush
shoulders with the laws of the land.
Previously, many clubs were centrally located in the CBD. Here
is where friends would meet after a long busy week to celebrate and quench
their thirst. Trends now show that the clubs are slowly moving to the residential
and commuter zone. Yes, businesses are now taking their goods and services to
their customers’ convenience. Places like Kileleshwa that house well to do guys
have attracted clubs like Viva Lounge, Solar Garden, Nibs and Marto’s. Some
clubs along Thika road had been long established but had few customers have now
increased their customer base. Clubs like Becks, Locust Grill, Sanaa City, Makuti,
and Barracks Inn among others have off late been flooding with customers. Their
counterparts in town have however been left with a small group of customers to
target. Youths in campus, a few boys and girls from high school and the hopeless
bachelors are now the target for CBD clubs. They would prefer CBD as it offers
a better ground for meeting their peers. Ednam ventures also established that
most of these chaps don’t own vehicles and so have limited chances of being caught
by the boys in blue for driving while drunk.
Natives Sports Bar & Grill located along Thika road have
gone way above others in their strategies. This has made the club grow to be one
of the most attractive clubs in Nairobi. They have the best interior design, better
and spacious parking lot that is secure. They play the best background music
that has flattered customers from different ages. The beautiful Bootilecious women
cannot be left unmentioned. Clearly, it has the full package that one would
need after a long week at work. The club has made taxi business around the area
rise as they provide the ‘designated driver’ services to those that take an
extra bottle and cannot hold its strength. A few young men are also making a
fortune out of the opportunities in the area. They provide Chauffeur services from
Natives to Alsop junction helping the drunk evade the boys in blue at only
200bob plus a tip that will see them get a bodaboda back to help another
customer. I know you love the money flow from the club to the taxi to the Chauffeur
to the bodaboda and over the police. Never mind. This is Nairobi for you.
