Mheshimiwa watch out

Back in school,
backbenchers a.k.a ‘wase wa mbingu’ would look at their watches every minute hoping
that time runs fast for the boring afternoon classes to end. When the teacher
walks out of the door, the lazy ones would close their books and return them to
the lockers with a consolation that there is still more time to finish up the
assignment. The following day just before the class, they realize that the
teacher left some assignment. Well, they had three options: abscond the class,
ignore the assignment and come up with a vague reason to cover their laziness
or do some shoddy job.
That is a
true reflection of most of our Kenyan politicians. They come up with big
visions for their constituents during campaigns. Latter, they relax and wait
thinking that they have the whole time in the world to accomplish what they
promised. They do this knowing that they have no pressure from the voiceless constituents.
During this time, they prioritize passing awkward and irrelevant bills that
only work to their personal gains. They pass bills like stripping off Governors
‘Muheshimiwa’ title just to remain supreme. How does that help the hungry lot
dying in Turkana, or the insecure teacher in Mandera or even the jobless youth
in Githurai? Among the three options a lazy student has after forfeiting
assignments, be sure the selfish politicians will never choose to abscond a term
in parliament. They will either do a shoddy job or sweeten their words to cover
up for the time spent in parliament and promise a next time like Arsenal fc does.
Kenyans
also bare the blame as they have allowed the trend to continue growing in our midst
generation after generation. For how long will we be cheated? It is high time
we open our eyes and elect leaders based on performance. Close to 2017, politicians will again become very busy
in in a bid to tie up loose ends just to remain relevant in the coming
elections. Last minute projects like construction of loosely tarmacked roads
and giving out handouts in the name of harambee. This transparently explains
why many counties had underutilized funds at the end of the financial year.
Politicians should quickly find a way of redeeming their shattered public image
with the people’s interests at heart. Na
sio tafadhali because 2017 is way near that they think.
