RUSSIA,THE HEART OF NYAYO STADIUM

Why it is that mashemeji derby played at Nyayo stadium attracts more fans than any other venue?The quickest answer may be; Because of its central location. Nyayo stadium is located a few meters from Nairobi CBD therefore shorter in distance for the green army alighting from lower Karen and for the Ingwe and Ingweletes from Ongwaro 46.It is actually a walking distance from their traditional meeting points;Kenya National Archives and KenCom where they meet to chant their team anthems before the walk to the stadium.

Another big reason is Russia stand.Yes, this is the terrace stand that is directly opposite the VIP stand at Nyayo stadium.It is the stand with the greatest excitement,fun and humour as it hosts the funniest people you’ll want to sit next to.Usually,Russia is the stand that drives the mood of the stadium.However,it is the most dangerous area.Critics will call the occupants of Russia hooligans but I would rather call them fanatics.Most of them show great loyalty,offer great support to the team and to their fellow supporters even off the stadium.
Riots from the zone are founded from the great history, pedigree, tradition, passion, love, allure and excitement the occupants  have for their team.The chaos is usually accelerated by the police who disperse the fans by firing tear gas canisters. This afterwards escalates to exchange of missiles turning the stadium into a battle field.The air is within minutes filled with plastic bottles stones and fumes from the tear gas.
